People smacking gum on the bus just chews us up. We appreciate any effort to boost the level of hygiene (oral, physical or otherwise) - especially when it comes to fresh breath in tight quarters. But, if you're in the mood to chomp your Chiclets, take note of the appropriate etiquette on public transportation. The first thing to consider is location. The cramped space on mass transit already tests our physical boundaries, so we're definitely not interested in hearing your smack down or feeling your flying spittle. The second problem is disposal. Your abandoned wad of Big Red on the floor leaves us in a sticky situation when it ruins our sassy shoes. Not to mention, the extra cleaning costs passed on in higher fares.
